Simple Smile

Mother Teresa once stated, "Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing." There is something about seeing a smile that brightens a person’s day. It doesn't seem to matter who the smile is from, whether a smile from an elderly person or from an infant, it will make an impression on those people who see it.

It is extra special when the smile that brightens your day comes from someone you love. From a parent, a sibling, a spouse, or a friend; however, the joy that comes from seeing your child smile is above all.

The photograph that I chose to use is of my daughter when she was seven months old. It reminds me of her purity and her innocence. Every one begins life the same way, as an infant, and we cannot survive on our own. In the beginning of our lives we rely on our parents to feed, cloth, and care for us. Although, we may not all have “traditional” parents, we have those people who provide for us.

Every child has a pure love for his/her parents, a pure love that comes from the knowledge that their parents cared for and taught them in their youth. We must remember throughout our lives that we are some ones child, and our actions affect those people who love us, especially our parents.

Twilight

For those who like vampire stories this book provides a unique twist on vampire mythology. For those who do not like vampire stories the book provides a unique twist on a love story. It has a little something for everyone. Although the book is a Teen book it speaks to all ages.

At the beginning of the book Bella moves from Phoenix, Arizona to Forks, Washington to live with her dad and free her mom up to travel with her new husband. She is very apprehensive about the move because of the weather changes and the small size of the town. On her first day, at Forks High School, she notices a unique group of students, the Cullens. She meets the youngest boy named Edward and feels a strange attraction to him. They develop kind of a love hate relationship and Bella notices a lot of strange things about Edward ranging from changing eye color to not ever eating. She discovers that he is a vampire but a "vegetarian" one, who feeds only on animals, and their relationship develops into a very strong almost obsessive love.

Bella is a very giving almost parental young woman taking care of both of her parents very different needs. From cooking dinner for her dad every night to reminding her mom of the important things she needs to do in her life, Bella is an unusually mature young women for her age. Bella's character is a good roll model, especially for young women. She is selfless, honest, trust worthy person, not to mention she's an excellent student. She is all around a good person with qualities which everyone should aspire to. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll fall in love with Bella, the Cullens, and Forks, Washington.

What dose a blonde do when...?

A sorority president follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard law school to try to win him back. Some may say that Legally Blonde is a stupid chick flick, but I believe that the underlying message is very powerful. Elle Woods, the main character, pushes herself beyond what others believe she is capable of and is able to overcome the stereotypical views surrounding and being forced on her.

Elle is the sorority president of Delta Nu and is dating Warner Huntington III, the cutest fraternity boy on campus. She believes the relationship is progressing, but Warner dumps her for someone who is "serious," then he transfers to Harvard law school. Elle decides that she is going to go to Harvard and prove to Warner that she can be serious. Even though no one, including her parents, believes that she is good enough to be accepted to the school, she works hard and is invited to attend the university. Even once she is in the school and attending classes, no one takes her seriously. However, she is determined to continue and soon impresses her professors and classmates with her dedication. In the end she graduates at the top of her class and her fellow classmates have a renewed appreciation for her unique ways.

In the movie, Elle is able to overcome the animosity that her classmates had towards her and become close friends with those that wanted nothing to do with her in the beginning. She inspires her teachers to have an open mind towards her non-typical ways.

This movie is an inspiration for those people who are stuck in the rut that stereotypes dig for them. It shows the world that it is not your appearance nor ways of thinking, but your nature and determination that count when trying new things. It doesn't matter who you are to others, but if you believe in yourself and what you are capable of that determines how far you will get in society.
